A Handy Guide To Home MaintenanceThe first section of the book concentrates on basic terminology and provides information on which tool is right for a particular job. Everything from power tools to nails gets a quick explanation. Also included in this section is advice on how to tackle common household repairs to faucets, toilets, electrical outlets, faulty lamps and switches, and tips on installing floor tile and sheet viny. One other thoughtful addition is the discussion of when to decide not to take on a repair job and instead call in an expert.
The section on storage solutions for all areas of the house is well done. It includes buying tips for a variety of modular and other units. There are even instructions for the adventurous who want to build some units for themselves.
Part three of the book discusses and illustrates several facets of home security and home safety considerations. For those living alone, this section of the book alone may well be enough justification for buying it.
If you fall within the specific target audience (the title will give you a clue as to whether you do or don't), this is a very nice book to have.

The father's bible
Finally, the truth of divorce, custody, and single parentingI am also a divorced, non-custodial father.
I have ready many books and research papers about social policy, child welfare, and child welfare practices. Father and Child Reunion is the best publication I read to date about divorce, custody, child support, and social policy. Dr. Farrell writes in a clear, concise, and highly readable style. He has also done his homework. The book is well researched.
This is book needs to be distributed to every family court judge, divorce court judge, and child protective custody worker in North America and the rest of the world.
I have remained anonymous for two reasons. First because my profession is about 70% female and operates under many if not all of the assumptions that Dr. Farrell deconstructs in his book. Second because I want to complete my graduate education.
Buy this book! Give it to your friends! Give it to sons and brothers and fathers and uncles and nephews!

A HARROWING PORTRAITOn a related note, readers might be interested to know that this book inspired Stewart O'Nan's great novel 'A prayer for the dying' (also available through amazon.com).
Disturbing, interesting read
A reading experienceThe book is essentially photographs and news clippings from a newspaper in Wisconsin from about 1890 to 1910. Interspersed are snippets from novels dealing with life during the period.
Turning the pages, reading the articles, and looking not at the pictures but into the eyes of the people in the photographs, one gets a sense not of some sterilized, backward glance at these people as some great societal force, not as a band of pioneers, but as very human people, who die in childbirth, die as children, die of diseases that sweep through whole towns and infect the entire state with fear, go insane, murder, and still maintain enough inner dignity to be able to look into the lens of a camera and mask most of their emotions long enough for the half-second exposure but not long enough to pierce the heart of people living a century later. It is pain. It is a death trip.
The book speaks for itself. Actually, it doesn't. The people in word and image speak for themselves.

great for girlsSometimes her imagination gets her in trouble. For instance when Marilla asks her to get a pattern from Mrs. Barry she doesn't want to because she imagined the woods between the houses were haunted! The book tells about her life growing up in the 1930's. As she grows, she learns many lessons and meets many friends who help her to become Anne of Green Gables.
This book is wonderful. It is a great book for girls to read. I loved it because the character was funny, spunky, and could talk forever. She reminded me of my sister. Anne never gave up trying to reach her goals. She will keep you interested throughout the whole book!
A memorable classic that touches your heart! It's not often you find such a spirited and lovable heroine as Anne. Captivating and captivatED, Anne is full of enthusiasm and fun, which gets her into all sorts of scrapes. This book is one that you are guaranteed to laugh over, cry over, and never want to put down! It is an ideal novel that you won't want to pass up! (Even if you don't read the rest of the Anne books, read this!)
Children's Literature at it's heightAnne of Green Gables is the first book in the Anne of Green Gables series. It takes place, as most of L. M. Montgomery's books do, on Prince Edward Island in Canada. This particular story takes place in the town of Avonlea. It follows young Anne Shirley, an orphan brought to Green Gables to help Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert on their farm. Much to Anne's dismay, Marilla tells her that they wanted a boy to help around the farm, not a girl. However, Marilla changes her mind and decides to keep the dynamic young girl who would become Anne of Green Gables.
This novel is incredibly written, with well-developed characters and an intricate plot. I absolutely loved it. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great example of children's literature at its height.

Angonizing heartbreak and joyful triumphs
This book is guaranteed to change your life!First published in 1973, The Front Runner has been translated into a number of languages, and has sold over ten million copies worldwide. In 1974, TFR was the first gay themed book to hit #1 on the New York Times best seller list. Read it, and you will know why this book has enjoyed such huge popularity over the years. Be warned though, I haven't met a single person who has been able to put this book down once started. It pulls you into the lives of Billy and Harlan, you feel their love, their joy and their pain. And, if you get to the end of the book, and you haven't shed tears, I would be tempted to say that you need to be checked for emotions!
